So, I told you guys I wrote a book, right?

Because the first copy of Sophomore Undercover came in the mail today.

On the overall list of exciting things that have happened in my life, this ranks pretty high:

Exciting things that have happened in Ben's life.

1.   First (and only) time successfully dunking a basketball on a regulation hoop.  Don't listen to the haters; this totally happened.
2.  Meeting (getting a hug from) the guy who played "Bubbles" on The Wire.
3.   Winning the 1995 Turkey Trot at Sonora Elementary School.

And now I get to add a new item to that distinguished list:

4.  Seeing my book in print for the first time.

Big ups to Jen Besser, Emily Schultz, Deborah Bass, Angus Killick, Andrew Sansone and everyone else over at Disney-Hyperion for putting together such a fine looking book.  You guys are a class act.

Now, I'm off to go sit at a coffee shop with my copy of Sophomore Undercover and pretend-read until somebody notices me and asks what book I'm reading.

This is awesome.

Congratulations. Truly awesome. And I just have to ask, was it anything like that scene in Back to the Future where the now hip George McFly opens the box of his novels?

Because I sure do hope that's exactly how it is.

Kelly: Why thank you.

Paul: Why thank you, as well. You know, what actually happened was I got this big brown envelope in the mail, and I just started ripping at the sucker, which was kind of a mistake, because they put some kind of environmental friendly cardboard filler stuff in the middle, so I ended up getting cardboard flecks all over the living room until I finally got to the book.

So unfortunately, I wasn't quite as smooth as George McFly.

I'm hoping your first book opening experience goes a bit smoother than mine. Because I pretty much crapped the bed.

Congrats, Ben! Must feel pretty rewarding after all that hard work. Hope we can meet up soon and chat about writing, dunking b-balls, and turkey trotting.

Tracy: Thanks, man! I'll drop you an email when I get back from Utah (they're having a book conference there for some reason.)

Monica: And a thank you to you as well, madam. Also, I love that you used the word "awesomeness." I'm definitely gonna steal that.

NDB: If nobody in Oakland is carrying it, I deserve to get punched in the stomach. That being said, I always love to see some good old fashioned Nick rage.

DJW: You know, I can direct you to some other independent bookstores that I'm almost a hundred percent sure aren't used by bums for masturbation. Or not. I mean, I guess you can never really be a hundred percent certain on something like that. Either way: I'm glad you're buying the book and thank you.
